Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about visiting, donating, volunteering, and the animals who call this place home.
What is Odessa Animal Sanctuary?
We're a 501(c)(3) nonprofit animal sanctuary in Odessa, Florida. We take in rescued, abandoned, and neglected animals and give them a permanent home. No transfers, no time limits. When an animal comes here, it stays for life.
What kinds of animals live at the sanctuary?
We care for over 450 animals including zebras, horses, goats, pigs, rabbits, chickens, ducks, tortoises, birds, and more. Most of them were abandoned, neglected, or surrendered by owners who could no longer care for them. See our full species directory.
Can I visit the sanctuary?
Yes, but only through private tours. Tours are available on Saturday and Sunday mornings from 9:30 to 11:30 AM. You'll get two hours with the animals. Feeding, photos, and stories. Tours cost $150 per person, and 100% goes to the animals. See our visit page for details or email karenann@odessaanimalsanctuary.org to book.
Do you adopt out animals?
No. We are a permanent sanctuary, not a shelter or rescue that rehomes animals. Every animal that comes here lives out its natural life with us. That's our promise.
How can I donate?
You can donate online through our website. We accept one-time and recurring donations. You can also mail checks to 7853 Gunn Hwy #390, Tampa, FL 33626. Every dollar goes directly to animal care: feed, vet bills, and shelter.
Is my donation tax-deductible?
Yes. Odessa Animal Sanctuary is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. All donations are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.
How much does it cost to feed 450+ animals?
We go through approximately 200 bales of hay per month, along with specialized feed for different species. Vet bills, medications, bedding, and supplies add up quickly. A $25 donation feeds an animal for a week. A $50 donation covers a vet visit.
Can I volunteer at the sanctuary?
Yes! We welcome volunteers. Volunteering involves feeding animals, hauling hay, cleaning enclosures, and helping with general maintenance. See our volunteer page for details, or email karenann@odessaanimalsanctuary.org to get started.
How was the sanctuary founded?
Andy and Brenda Kline started Odessa Animal Sanctuary in 2005 with a handful of rescued animals and a piece of land in Odessa, Florida. Over 20 years later, the sanctuary has grown to over 5 acres and cares for more than 450 animals.
Can I surrender an animal to the sanctuary?
We evaluate surrender requests on a case-by-case basis, depending on our capacity and resources. Please contact us directly to discuss your situation. Keep in mind that any animal we accept becomes a permanent resident. We take this commitment seriously.
Do you accept items from a wishlist?
Yes! We maintain an Amazon wishlist with supplies we actually use: hay, bedding, bleach, medications, and more. Everything on it gets used within days. Items can be shipped to 7853 Gunn Hwy #390, Tampa, FL 33626.
Where is the sanctuary located?
Our physical address is 18404 Rustic Woods Trail, Odessa, FL 33556. Our mailing address is 7853 Gunn Hwy #390, Tampa, FL 33626. Please note that visits are by appointment only through our private tour program.

Can I sponsor a specific animal?
We don't currently have a formal sponsorship program for individual animals, but we welcome donations designated for specific types of care, such as veterinary bills or feed. Contact us if you'd like to learn more about how your donation can make a targeted impact.
How can I help if I can't donate money?
There are many ways to help beyond financial donations. You can volunteer your time, send items from our Amazon wishlist, share our social media posts to help spread the word, or attend our fundraising events. Every bit of support makes a difference for the animals.
